After School Programs - The Baynan Community

Elementary School (Grades K-5) Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) ECFE offers programming for children under age 5 and their caregivers, in partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools. Provides weekly Play and Learn drop-in classes that support early learning through play-based activities for children and their caregivers. Also offer Seedlings, an evening program held twice a week, focused on holistic, multi-generational learning for families. Thrive An after-school and out-of-school program that nurtures the whole child through cultural awareness, educational enrichment, healthy meals, physical activity, homework help, and leadership development. Thrive also emphasizes relationship-building with caring young adults from the community, social-emotional learning, and teamwork. Kids Club A service-learning initiative that introduces children to the value of helping others through age-appropriate community projects. Cool Off Days A summer enrichment program that promotes social and intellectual growth through hands-on learning, field trips, and physical activities in a fun and engaging environment. ? Middle School (Grades 6-8) SOAR An after-school and out-of-school program focused on helping youth build life and career skills, explore personal values and identity, set meaningful goals, and participate in service-learning projects. SOAR also provides academic support through homework help and skill-building activities. Cool Off Days A summer program designed to build social and intellectual skills through exciting activities such as field trips, service projects, career exploration, science projects, and workplace visits. Elevate A support-focused program offering academic assistance, career exploration opportunities, and mentorship. Elevate helps high school youth prepare for post-secondary success by developing leadership, communication, and goal-setting skills.

Youth Development - Urban Roots MN

Operates youth development training, providing STEM-centered education, job readiness, and life skills training at the intersection of urban agriculture, conservation, and food entrepreneurship for youth ages 14 - 21: Market Garden Program: operates five urban vegetable, herb and flower gardens hosted at various partner locations including government property, a nursing home, a restaurant, and churches. Interns help plant and maintain the gardens, operate a farmer's market stand and sell produce to local restaurants. During the fall and winter, they develop entrepreneurial skills by creating and selling garden-related products and operating a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Conservation Program: interns work on community-based restoration projects such as building rain gardens, renovating parks, removing invasive species, and maintain 278 acres of green spaces in four parks. Cook Fresh Program: interns develop skills in food preparation and preservation, nutrition literacy, and creative cooking through collaborations with Twin Cities chefs.

Family Services: - Bimaadiziwin Mikana (The Path of Life): Parent mentor program designed around healing and connecting families with community and elders. While focusing on traditional cultural lifeways, resiliency, and strengths, positive Indian parenting values are incorporated into the program. - Ombi'Ayaa Anishinabe Ininiiwug (Rise Up Original Men): Provides a place for American Indian men who want to practice spiritual, cultural, and intergenerational engagement. Activities include: Cultural events, including sugar bush and ricing Men's softball and basketball recreational leagues Traditional ceremonies, including sweat lodge Weekly father and men's group and weekly drumming group - Thinica Owichakiyapi Thipi (Helping the Homeless Build): - For individuals and families experiencing homelessness and who are not currently in housing or have not found housing: Provides resources and support for those experiencing homelessness. Services may include assisting the client with housing search assistance, tenant education, budgeting assistance, life skills training/coaching, etc. - For individuals and families experiencing homelessness or on the verge of becoming homeless that are currently in housing or have found housing: If eligible Family Homelessness Prevention and Assistance Program - FHPAP may help with rent, security deposit, utilities, and utility deposit assistance. - Note: Funding comes from a variety of sources including the Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program - FHPAP as well as others. Youth Services: - Waaban Ogimaawag (Tomorrow's Leaders): Provides youth with an opportunity to become engaged in traditional American Indian service learning. Campers will do jobs that are basic home repairs. Projects may include: - Caulking around windows/doors - Minor fascia/soffit repair or painting - Minor fascia/soffit repair or painting - New mobile home skirting/skirting repair - New steps only - New stoop and step construction - New wheelchair ramp construction - Weatherstripping around windows/doors Applicants must be on a fixed or low income and be within a 30-mile radius of the designated project site. Client needs, amount of work, and skills of campers are considered. It can be in town or rural. Someone must be at home while work is being done. Bathroom, electricity for tools, and drinking water must be provided. Labor & materials are free. Campers will provide their own transportation and will be supervised by the adults and group cares camp staff.
