Volunteer Opportunities - Victim Services - Dodge and Olmsted Counties

Volunteer advocates complete a 40-hour training program to become Certified Volunteer Advocates in the state of Minnesota. After training, they answer the crisis line to provide emotional support, referrals, and information for victims of sexual assault and other crimes. Additionally, volunteers are trained to respond to Saint Mary's Emergency Department to support victims of sexual assault. Volunteer advocates assist victims/survivors during hospital sexual assault exams and law enforcement interviews. Volunteers must commit to taking one 8-hour shift per month.

Community Education - Southern Valley Alliance

Provides community education about domestic violence, intimate partner violence, healthy relationships, and other abusive behaviors to the public. Offers information and tips on the website about helping someone who is experiencing abuse, electronic device safety, effects on domestic violence on children, dating and teen violence, and family and friends of victims of domestic violence. Southern Valley Alliance offers awareness training presentations and builds relationships with community partners about domestic violence, education to youth, inform neighbors, and other community groups. Volunteer opportunities are available to anyone interested. A variety of volunteer opportunities for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Pet Loss Support - Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement

Provides supportive services for individuals who have experienced the loss of a beloved companion animal. Services include: - Chat room: Offers free, scheduled, live sessions online in a group chat platform with trained volunteer pet loss specialists who are available to offer support for those grieving the loss or anticipating the loss of a beloved companion animal - Curated listing of recommended readings on various pet and animal topics such as pet loss and euthanasia - Information directory: Provides a comprehensive listing of service providers who are local and online that provide animal chaplain services, animal hospitals, in-home euthanasia, no-charge support groups, partnerships, pet cemeteries, pet loss counselors, pet loss support groups, and other resources - Online video support group program: An online group video session hosted by a pet loss grief support specialist that provides a safe and private space to meet others who are going through similar loss of a beloved companion animal. - Volunteers are needed to assist Medicare beneficiaries with decisions about health and drug coverage, long-term care insurance, medical bills, Medicare claims, and filing appeals. Training on Medicare includes the 18-hour "Core Body of Knowledge", plus regular updates.
