Responsible for maintenance of the County's 400 mile highway system. In addition to keeping highways clear of ice and snow, maintenance crews perform patching, crack filling, shouldering, and gravel blading.
They also repair and replace culverts, maintain bridges, mow and control weeds in ditches, as well as other activities.

- Directly or indirectly involved with the maintenance of roadways under the jurisdiction of 15 cities, 42 organized townships and the 37 unorganized townships in the county.
