The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) serves as a centralized location for coordinating disaster response and recovery efforts. The specific functions performed at the EOC will vary depending on the type and scope of the emergency, but generally include the following responsibilities: - Business and Industry Coordination: Coordinates with businesses and industries directly affected by and/or responding to the disaster. - County Government Response: Coordinates the response efforts of Stevens County government agencies. - Local Government Coordination: Coordinates with any local governments affected by and/or responding to the disaster. - Public Information: Generates and disseminates appropriate public information related to the emergency. - State and Federal Agency Coordination: Coordinates with state and federal agencies involved in disaster response. - Volunteer Management: Coordinates, registers, and channels the services of volunteers assisting in the disaster response. Criteria for Activation: The level of activation for the Stevens County EOC is determined by the severity of the emergency. Activation may range from minimal staffing to full-scale operations, depending on the situation.

Emergency preparedness and response include: - Hazard Mitigation: Reduce or cut long-term risk to people and property from natural hazards which involves floods, storms, high winds, wildfires, and earthquakes - Industrial Accidents: Accidents that happen such as pipelines, aviation, nuclear, or hydropower energy hazards - Make a Plan: Online resource information about how to make a plan and prepare for disasters for the public - Natural Disasters: Response to landslides, sinkholes, and earthquakes - Outdoor Warning Sirens: The county activates sirens at the recommendation of the National Weather Service when a tornado warning or strong winds are present - Terrorism: Security threats or actions that threaten public safety and security. Lead by federal, local law enforcement, and security agencies at all levels are responsible for detecting and defending against security threats.

Services for the community: - Community Emergency Response Training (CERT): 20 hour class to help prepare for emergencies and disasters in the home or community. Practice first aid and triage, using fire extinguishers, and basic search and rescue in a casual atmosphere. Build your own evacuation and shelter kits. - Firewise: Resource to for homeowners to reduce the risk of a fire damage to their home by taking some simple preventive actions. Homeowners can become a recognized Firewise USA site. - Volunteer Opportunities: - CERT team supports emergency response to natural and man-made emergencies and disasters through education, training, response and recovery - Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services / Amateur Radio Emergency Services (RACES/ARES) serves as a back-up for public safety communications during emergencies and disasters, when traditional methods of communication are overwhelmed or fail - Emergency Services Chaplains provide emotional and spiritual support to all emergency responders and their families, as well as victims of crime or crisis served by our responders
