Includes: Breastfeeding Information and Support: - Public Health Nurses, WIC Lactation Consultants and Peer Breastfeeding Counselors are available to answer questions or concerns regarding breastfeeding. Immunizations and Flu Shots: Offers immunizations to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured through the MN Vaccines for Children (MNVFC) and the Uninsured and Underinsured Adult Vaccines (UUAV) programs. Immunization clinics are offered the first and third Tuesday of the month, 3 pm - 5:30 pm. No appointment necessary. A $20 donation requested per vaccination, however, no one will be turned away. On-site services for pregnant and parenting teens, Minneapolis public school students only. Includes: Academic Services: Services are available at both traditional and non traditional high school settings. Child Care Services: Four licensed child care sites located at Broadway at Longfellow, North, Roosevelt/Wellstone, and South High School. Child Care is available for children ages 6 weeks - 5 years old. Parenting Education: Parent education classes are part of the school day. How these services are offered vary from site to site. Prenatal and Homebound Services: In addition to the regular high school curriculum, pregnant teens participate in prenatal and parenting classes. It is essential that the teen parent remain connected to school during maternity leave so after the birth of their child, teen parents are connected with tutors to assist them in completing their assignments and support them in their return to high school. Support Services: Pregnant and parenting teens enrolled in any Minneapolis public school may need some additional help. Provides support in finding and accessing valuable resources. These resources may be accessed through MPS staff and Hennepin County staff located on site at Longfellow Community. In addition, social workers are located at Broadway High School at Longfellow, South High School and Roosevelt/Wellstone High School. Community Partnerships: TAPPP works with many community partners to meet the needs of the student parent and their children.
Minnesota's version of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). Statewide MFIP helps families work their way out of poverty by providing temporary cash and food benefits to eligible families. Statewide MFIP has a 60 month time limit, there are some limited exceptions and extensions to the time limit. Participants are required to follow certain work rules. Failure to meet work rules will result in their MFIP grant being sanctioned, or reduced. In addition: - Child support will be pursued in those situations where one or both parents are absent - A woman expecting a baby may receive assistance for herself during her pregnancy - Children who are being cared for by certain relatives may receive assistance Note: MFIP recipients may be eligible for Emergency Assistance, Child Care Assistance, Medical Assistance and/or Food Support.

Early Learning Scholarships help individuals pay for child care and early education to help children get ready for school. A scholarship must be used at a Parent Aware-Rated program. Parents Aware is a rating tool to help parents select child care and early education programs. Early Learning Scholarships increase access to early childhood programs for 3-and 4-year old children with the highest needs to improve school readiness for all young children.

- Provides as alternative educational setting for pregnant and parenting teens. - TAPP meets every Monday and Tuesday during the school year, at the Itasca Resource Center, for classes. - TAPP students are enrolled at the Alternative Learning Center, in Grand Rapids, on Tuesday during the school year or return to the traditional school setting at their respective area High Schools for the remainder of the week. - Children of TAPP students are enrolled in Early Head Start and attend in the purple room at the Itasca Resource Center on Monday or Tuesday throughout the Academic year. - Teen Parents may earn hours of credit towards their high school diploma by attending and actively participating in the classes.

A supportive, small, secondary learning community which allows young women who are pregnant and/or parenting to attain their high school diploma while developing increased self-sufficiency and parenting skills. There is on-site child care for babies 6 weeks to 33 months, formal classes and opportunities for minimal independent study. The school's goals include academic continuity, successful completion of required coursework, increased parenting skills, development of interpersonal and communication skills, basic standards test proficiency, use of computer literacy skills and development of post-secondary educational goals.

Family Spirit Home-visiting intervention program to support young Native parents from pregnancy to 3 years postpartum. Parents gain knowledge and skills to achieve development for their preschool-age children across the domains of physical, cognitive, social-emotional, language-learning, and self-help. The Family Spirit Program consists of 63 lessons. Goals of the program: - Prepare for labor and delivery - Learn how your baby develops - Understand nutrition for you and your baby - Keep your baby safe - Strengthen family relationships - Access community resources - Achieve personal goals - Calm your baby - Help your baby be smart and happy - Use your cultural practices in parenting - Enjoy being a parent Maternal and Child Health Prenatal Visits: Public Health Nurse will discuss normal body changes during pregnancy, nutritional needs during pregnancy, healthy choices during pregnancy, and referrals for other available services. Postpartum Visits: After delivery, a Public Health Nurse is available to discuss topics including normal body changes after pregnancy, breastfeeding support, family planning and birth control methods that are best for parent, information on infant development, weight, and measurement, parenting techniques, car seat safety, sleep safety, and referrals for other available services. Well-Child Services: Public Health Nurse is available to visit during regularly scheduled appointments. Topics covered during these visits including baby's height, weight, and development, feeding baby (breastfeeding, bottle feeding, starting solids), sleep habits, how to play with baby and activities that stimulate development, and referrals for other available services. Family Planning: Individual or group education sessions about family planning methods, good physical health before and during pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. Breastfeeding Counseling: Public Health Nurses trained in lactation counseling offering education and support during the prenatal and postpartum period to help mothers get a good start on nursing. One-on-One Childbirth education and Family Spirit education. Parenting Education: Public Health staff will meet with parents to provide age-specific parenting education, explain developmental stages that children go through, and discuss alternative ways to discipline children. Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Provides benefits for pregnant women, infants, and children ages 1 - 4 years such as: - Breastfeeding education and support - Formula for infants for breastfeeding - Healthy foods - Nutrition education

There are a variety of home visiting programs available depending on the age of the child or parents. Individuals are encouraged to call to be assessed for the program that best fits their needs.
