Minnesota's version of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). Statewide MFIP helps families work their way out of poverty by providing temporary cash and food benefits to eligible families. Statewide MFIP has a 60-month limit, there are some limited exceptions and extensions to the time limit. Participants are required to follow certain work rules. Failure to meet work rules will result in their MFIP grants being sanctioned or reduced. In addition:

• Child support will be pursued in those situations where one or both parents are absent

• A woman expecting a baby may receive assistance for herself during her pregnancy

• Children who are being cared for by certain relatives may receive assistance

NOTE: MFIP recipients may be eligible for Emergency Assistance, Child Care Assistance, Medical Assistance, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Cash-grant program for adults with low incomes experiencing a household emergency. Adults can receive assistance once every 12 months, with financial aid provided directly to the vendor. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Adults must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help. Short-term grant assistance for individuals in a financial crisis because of:

• In situations of threat of eviction from a landlord/management or homelessness as a result of domestic abuse, rent and/or rental deposit assistance is provided. Mortgage payment assistance is not considered unless the individual is in foreclosure or experiencing difficulty from an employment crisis.

• In situations of utility (electricity, fuel oil, natural gas, propane, sewer, or water) shut-off and refusal of service for fuel, deposit and payment assistance is provided

• Access to books, audiobooks, large print materials, magazines, musical CD's, and local newspapers

• Adult and children/teen programs

• Book clubs

• Community events

• E-audiobooks and eBooks

• Interlibrary loan

• Internet access

• Photocopier

• Reference and information services

Offers free weekly support groups for families with newborns. Parents can have their babies weighed and receive support from a lactation consultant, public health nurse, and ECFE parent educator.

Provides law enforcement and community services

Helps people without children who can't work enough to support themselves, and whose income and resources are very low pay for basic needs. The maximum monthly benefit is:

• $128 for a person living in a licensed residential facility or receiving substance use disorder treatment services

• $350 for a person living in the community

• Emergency funds may be available if the individual cannot pay for basic needs, such as shelter or food, and their health or safety is at risk because of this

People who get GA are also eligible for help with medical and food costs through Medical Assistance - MA and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP.

Provides legal representation in immigration related legal matters throughout the state of Minnesota. These may include deportation defense, family based petitions, applications for lawful permanent residency, visa processing, waivers, TPS, asylum, U Visa, T Visa, VAWA, and SIJS cases, DACA renewals, citizenship, and naturalization. ILCM does not represent tourist or student related visas, nor employment based or religious worker visas.

Provides homeless prevention program services such as:

• Prevention Services: Temporary financial assistance and/or supportive services to help people remain in their current housing situation, relocate, or divert them from entering the homeless system. Financial assistance is provided for past due rent or for one-time housing funds to help individuals maintain or obtain housing.

• Rapid-Rehousing: Assist households to quickly exit homelessness and return to permanent housing. Provides one-time rental assistance and supportive services such as case management and housing navigation.

Intensive community services available, based on individual needs of the client and provided primarily in the client's home. Services include but are not limited to:

• Case management

• Provides advocacy for victims of domestic violence in relation to court proceedings

Thrift store offering new and used clothing and household goods. Village Rewards program whereby shoppers earn points for each dollar spent, for donating, and for special volunteer events.
