This is a Medicaid program for beneficiaries who need help in paying for Medicare services. The beneficiary must have Medicare Part A and limited income and resources. For those who qualify, the Medicaid program pays Medicare Part B premiums. Eligibility begins the month of application. Also, if eligible, retroactive coverage for up to three months prior to the month of application. Note: There can be a lag time before SSA is able to stop taking the premiums out of the recipient's benefit check but the recipient will be reimbursed by SSA for all months eligible for SLMB and/or QMB. The Child Care Assistance program helps families pay for child care so parents can work, look for a job or attend school. Parents must meet specific criteria with each activity for child care to be approved. Parents must comply with child support enforcement for all children in the family. Family income must meet income entry limits at application to qualify for the program. Parents pay a portion of the cost based on income and family size. The program is available for children younger than 13 and for special needs children younger than 15. Child care programs that help pay child care costs:- MFIP and Diversionary Work Program (DWP) Child Care is for families who receive MFIP or DWP benefits. Parents work with Employment Counselors to develop a plan for child care while they work, look for work or attend school. Contact your Employment Counselor for child care.- Transition Year Child Care is for families who received MFIP or DWP for at least 3 of the last 6 months. Program is available for up to 12 months from MFIP or DWP closing so parents can work or look for work. School and training programs are not approved activities for this program.- Basic Sliding Fee Child Care (BSF) is for families who need help paying child care costs while parents work, look for work or attend school. Funds are limited for this program so there may be a waiting list.

Counselors: review current finances to give a clear idea of options, works with individuals to submit paperwork to apply for mortgage modification, refers to government programs to help save the home, assists with postponing the sheriff's sale to enable more time to work out a mortgage solution.?- Homebuyer Counseling: Helps individuals set themselves up for long-term success for buying a home. Counselors will: assess the financial situation, address barriers such as credit and debt, determine if an client is ready to buy and help calculate what they can afford, share information on current mortgage loan programs, and refer to down payment and closing cost assistance programs.- Reverse Mortgage Counseling: Advises individuals on reverse mortgages which allows older adults who have equity in their homes to obtain cash from their homes without selling them in order to pay for home health care and other needed services. Reverse mortgage counseling is available by phone throughout Minnesota or in person at the Brainerd, Duluth, Minneapolis, and Willmar locations only.
