SOAR participants receive professional one on one support from their Career Specialist while working on developing their employment plan. The employment plan includes employment goals and milestones and identifies potential barriers to employment success. Career Specialists will assist participants to reduce barriers (i.e. transportation, child care, employment scheduling, education attainment level) associated with goal completion. Career Specialists will support participants to develop their resumes and applications, practice mock interviews, engage in job search efforts and help increase overall work readiness skills. Once participants obtain employment, their Career Specialist will continue one on one case management support to assist in addressing any new barriers that may threaten long-term employment and ensure employment retention.
Career Exploration
Career Specialists will work with participants to identify their skills, interests and learning style, and then match their results to career fields that are the "best fit" for them. Participants will learn about employment opportunities and how to move up in their chosen career field and gain insight into the work culture, wage ranges and educational requirements. Participants will also get the opportunity to meet with employers and employees from different industries, and go on tours of different work sites. All of these activities will provide participants with a clear variety of high-demand industries in northeastern MN. Career exploration opportunities include the hospitality, manufacturing, construction/building trades, healthcare and transportation industries and more.
