Fillmore County Community Services provides advice, support, and assessment of the situation. Only the court system can make an involuntary commitment and only if the person is determined to be eligible and a commitment petition is filed with supportive documentation. The Family Services Section works with the courts, corporate counsel, law enforcement agencies, guardians, and families to see that people needing commitment receive the care and/or treatment services they need in the least restrictive setting possible.
Direct Access allows an individual to go directly to a provider they choose to receive a comprehensive assessment and access care immediately. The county will assess individuals who need help paying for a chemical use assessment or treatment services through the Behavioral Health Fund. Services also include: - Case management - Prepetition screening for all individuals petitioned for civil commitments for chemical dependency due to being a danger to themselves or others - Provides referrals to local community service providers for chemical assessments or treatment services. Also, directs individuals to visit www.fasttrackermn.org for additional resources.

Targeted Case Management: Helps adults with a serious and persistent mental illness gain access to needed medical, social, educational, vocational, financial, and other necessary services as they relate to the recipient's mental health needs. Also collaborates with two ACT Teams in Duluth and one in Virginia within Saint Louis County. Civil Commitment: Involuntary commitment for persons determined by the courts that are warranted. Works with courts, corporate counsel, law enforcement agencies, guardians, and families to see that people who are committed receive the services they need in the least restrictive setting possible.

The Benton County Attorney's Office is responsible for the prosecution of all felony-level crimes that occur within Benton County, as well as all petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenses occurring in the unincorporated areas of the county. The County Attorney also represents the county in civil litigation, and represents the State of Minnesota and the Benton County Human Services in juvenile delinquency, juvenile protection and child support matters. In addition, the County Attorney's Office provides legal counsel to the county departments and assists in the interpretation and enforcement of county ordinances.

Assists in finding a qualified mental health professional to complete a diagnostic assessment and work with one's mental health professional to gather the necessary paperwork to determine eligibility to receive services. Case managers will assist in gaining access to medical, social, educational, vocational, and other necessary services as they relate to one's needs. The Community Support Services Program can help one remain in the community by offering support, providing medication monitoring, assisting with independent living skills, and crisis assistance.

Services include: - Taking reports and investigating abuse and/or maltreatment - Removal of the individual to safer surroundings - Services necessary to remove the conditions which have created a threat of life NOTE: Complaints, questions, or concerns involving incidents in facilities licensed by the Health Department, such as hospitals, nursing homes, boarding care homes, supervised living facilities, assisted living, and home health agencies can be referred to the Minnesota Board on Aging Ombudsman for Long-Term Care.

Services include: - Taking reports and investigating abuse and/or maltreatment - Removal of the individual to safer surroundings - Services necessary to remove the conditions which have created a threat of life NOTE: Complaints, questions, or concerns involving incidents in facilities licensed by the Health Department, such as hospitals, nursing homes, boarding care homes, supervised living facilities, assisted living, and home health agencies can be referred to the Minnesota Board on Aging Ombudsman for Long-Term Care.
