Only the court system can make an involuntary commitment and only if the person is determined to be eligible and a commitment petition is filed with supportive documentation. The Family Services Section works with the courts, corporate counsel, law enforcement agencies, guardians, and families to see that people needing commitment receive the care and/or treatment services they need in the least restrictive setting possible.

The Benton County Attorney's Office is responsible for the prosecution of all felony-level crimes that occur within Benton County, as well as all petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenses occurring in the unincorporated areas of the county.
The County Attorney also represents the county in civil litigation, and represents the State of Minnesota and the Benton County Human Services in juvenile delinquency, juvenile protection and child support matters.
