Career education training programs are short-term and industry-specific, designed to graduate students with industry-specific credentials and enter a career pathway that results in wage advancement. All students (aside from HVAC and Solar training) begin their career pathway in Workplace Essentials, a short training course designed to incorporate interpersonal, financial, and technical skill basics into one compact course that sets the pace for advanced learning. Industry-recognized credentials are incorporated into most of the Career Education Training Programs that include not only the preparation for the credential exam, but the exam itself. Articulation agreements are also incorporated into specific trainings, allowing individuals to have their classroom hours transfer into credits once enrolled in a partner MnSCU school. There is a phone provided, but food, laundry, and cable TV are the resident's responsibility. Some rooms have a TV and refrigerator.

Presentations are tailored to meet the needs of each individual group, and are available to immigrants and refugees, service providers, legal practitioners, advocates, and the general community.

Families must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help. Short-term grant assistance for families in a financial crisis because of:
  • In situations of threat of eviction from a landlord/management or homelessness as a result of domestic abuse, rent and/or rental deposit assistance is provided. Mortgage payment assistance is not considered unless the family is in foreclosure or experiencing difficulty from an employment crisis.
  • In situations of utility (electricity, fuel oil, natural gas, propane, sewer, or water) shut-off and refusal of service for fuel, deposit, and payment assistance is provided
  • Financial aid is provided directly to the vendor

Provides violence prevention, intervention, support, outreach services, and leadership opportunities for youth in residential and community settings. Provides a variety of services to youth of all genders who have experienced relationship violence, sexual assault or exploitation, stalking, or homelessness. Programs include: Movement for Violence Prevention (MVP): Leadership development activities to assist youth-led community engagement, skill enhancement, peer connections, and tools for change to prevent youth violence. Inspiring Youth: A year-long, intensive, community-based program for youth ages 10 - 17 and their families who have been impacted by violence. Youth workers provide comprehensive and culturally responsive mentorship, support, and access to services, activities, and leadership opportunities. Youth Site-Based and Community-Based Housing: Transitional housing for youth and young adults who are victims of violence and exploitation, including sex trafficking. Safety planning and support are provided. Voices in Prevention (VIP): A 6-week violence prevention curriculum serving middle and high school students. Curriculum might also include support groups, one-on-one sessions, peer mediation, and service learning. Youth Safety Plans: Specialized safety plans for youth NorthStar Youth Outreach Center: A drop-in center for homeless youth offering advocacy, safety planning, and connections to additional community resources. The center also offers:

People who get GA are also eligible for help with medical and food costs through Medical Assistance - MA and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - SNAP.

Offers individualized supports for people with disabilities and their families, both in and outside the home. Services are person-centered and designed to empower individuals while providing meaningful support to families. Services include:
  • Consulting Services: Designated Coordinator and Designated Manager consulting for family foster care and small providers, ensuring compliance with MN Statute 245D.
?- In-Home Support Services (IHS): 1:1 skill-building, teaching, and training in the home, including community outings and activities.
  • Respite Care: Temporary in-home or out-of-home relief for families and caregivers, ranging from a few hours to extended stays.
  • Skill Development Activities: Support in areas such as cooking, fitness, health, hygiene, medication management, money handling, relationship building, safety, and social participation.

  • Thinica Owichakiyapi Thipi (Helping the Homeless Build):
  • For individuals and families experiencing homelessness and who are not currently in housing or have not found housing: Provides resources and support for those experiencing homelessness. Services may include assisting the client with housing search assistance, tenant education, budgeting assistance, life skills training/coaching, etc.
  • For individuals and families experiencing homelessness or on the verge of becoming homeless that are currently in housing or have found housing: If eligible Family Homelessness Prevention and Assistance Program - FHPAP may help with rent, security deposit, utilities, and utility deposit assistance.
  • Note: Funding comes from a variety of sources including the Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program - FHPAP as well as others.
Youth Services:
  • Waaban Ogimaawag (Tomorrow's Leaders): Provides youth with an opportunity to become engaged in traditional American Indian service learning. Also provides tutoring to American Indian youth on diverse subject areas, including test preparation, skill building, and success strategies.

  • Uninsured Discount Program: Provides a discount on medically necessary hospital charges for individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid or Allina Health Partners Care
  • MedCredit Financial Services: Provides a financing option to patients who can't afford to pay high monthly payments for their medical bills over a short period of time
  • Prescription Assistance Program: Patients can speak to staff or contact an Allina Health health care provider to send a referral letter to the program

Offers secured and unsecured loans ranging from $2,000 to $75,000, with options that may or may not require monthly payments. Grants are available to address lead-based paint risks. Referrals are also provided to grant and volunteer-based no-cost programs.

Community-based pre-apprenticeship program. Participants receive hands-on training in construction and carpentry skills while working toward their GED or high school diploma. Youth are offered CPR certification, OSHA certification, and NCCER training. Youth work on a myriad of projects ranging from demolition and renovation to new construction. Every participant is provided with workplace skills via paid work experience. Participants get experience in reading a tape measure, using handheld and power tools, estimating project needs, painting/staining, installing cabinets, sheetrock and mudding, demolition, installing banisters and stairs, concrete work, installing flooring, window installation, roofing, framing garden beds, and picnic tables. Construction projects focus on low-income housing and nonprofit organizations.
