- Provides legal advice and support to all county departments - Represents the County, its departments, and employees in litigation matters. - Prosecutes adults charged with felonies, gross misdemeanors, misdemeanors, petty misdemeanors, and ordinance violations in the County - Prosecutes juvenile offenders who break the law within the County. - Review criminal investigations referred by law enforcement and make a decision whether an individual will be charged with a crime - Provide legal representation and advice to Lake County Health and Human Services in matters concerning child protection, adult protection, child support and collections, and involuntary commitment of mentally ill, intellectual disabled, and chemically dependent adults. In addition, the county attorney investigates and prosecutes welfare fraud, criminal non-support, and paternity matters. NOTE: Does not represent individual citizens and cannot give legal advice.
