Victim - Witness Program - Dakota County Attorney's Office

Works primarily with victims and witnesses of cases being prosecuted by Dakota County Attorney's Office (felonies, juvenile delinquency, select misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases). Includes: - Information regarding statuses of cases - Education and preparation for trials - Accompanies victims and witnesses to criminal court hearings - Assistance in applying for witness fees, restitution from the offender and compensation from the Minnesota Crime Victims Reparations Board - Transportation to court and child care while testifying - Assist with return of property held by police - Referrals to other Dakota County services or community resources - Emergency funds up to $500 maximum for replacement of necessary property that was lost, stolen or damaged as a result of a crime, expenses relating to ensuring safety and security, and crime scene clean-up. Applicant must be a victim of the crime, must make a police report and be cooperative with the investigation, must not have been engaged in criminal behavior at the time of their victimization, and must have a financial need. Applicant must live in Dakota County or the crime they are a victim of should have occurred in Dakota County. Applicant can apply once per crime. Payment is made to the vendor/service provider (i.e. locksmith, mechanic, etc.) directly whenever possible. A check can reimburse the victim only with proof of payment, such as an original receipt. - Assistance with preparation of victim impact statements
