Services align with the Minnesota Child and Teen Checkup standards and the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT). Promotes oral health among low-income children and teens through a range of preventive and restorative measures: Oral Evaluations and Assessments:

• Assessment of dental concerns and conditions
• Conducting a thorough examination of oral health
• Detection of infections in gum tissues
• Oral cancer screening
• Retention checks for sealants
• Utilization of X-rays and intra-oral pictures for diagnostic purposes

Preventive Procedures:

• Dental Prophylaxis: Removal of oral plaque, calculus, stains, and bacteria causing cavities and infections
• Fluoride Varnish Treatment: Strengthening enamel to prevent cavities
• Sealants: Non-invasive procedure forming a protective barrier on permanent molars, reducing food entrapment and bacterial growth

Oral Health Education:

• Providing valuable information to promote awareness and understanding of oral health practices

Communication and Follow-Up:

• Regular communication and follow-up with schools and parents/guardians to ensure continuity of care for children

Follow-Up Dental Restorative Treatments:

• Non-Surgical Extraction: Performance of non-surgical extractions for specific diseased teeth
• Restorative Treatments include:

• Application of Silver Diamide Fluoride (SDF) as a non-invasive treatment

• Fillings to address dental decay

• Use of nitrous oxide as needed for patient comfort during dental procedures

• Utilization of stainless steel crowns for extensive decay

Provides primary care services, including:

• Behavioral health assessments and treatments for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

• Chronic disease management

• Dental care services (cleanings, dentures, exams, extractions, fillings, and pediatric dental care)

• Immunizations

• Individual therapy

• Group therapy

• Grief and loss counseling

• Health maintenance and prevention

• Physical exams

• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatments that include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and brain spotting

Preventive dental care program providing teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, oral health, and nutritional education for individuals of all ages who are underinsured or uninsured. The service is delivered to students in school by way of a mobile dental unit that brings the equipment on site with a local dental hygienist and assistant provided by Children's Dental Services. The service is also available at UWNEMN's building in Chisholm.
