Veteran Services - Fillmore County Veterans Service Office

The department assists veterans and their families in obtaining local, state, and federal benefits that they are entitled to receive. Emergency financial assistance may be available for a variety of basic needs (could include utilities, shelter, food, transportation, etc.), if requests are approved by Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. Some medical equipment may be available for loan such as canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs. Transportation is available for veterans to medical services at VA hospital in Minneapolis on odd numbered days of the month.

Dakota, Scott, and Carver County Social Service Office - Salvation Army Twin Cities Social Services

Financial assistance for rent payments and other special needs. Note: limited funding is available for all three counties and only available on a case by case basis; call for details. Reason to Smile: Low-cost dental services available to Dakota County residents Food shelf and clothing closet usage is limited to once a month. Clients shop from current inventory. Food distribution usage is limited to twice a month. Clients receive pre-selected food, usually, produce, but it may also include other items if available. In partnership with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Seasonal programs include Toy Shop; Family, Teen, and Kids Camps; Back to School Project; and Coats for Kids.

Emergency Relief Fund - Southern Smoke Foundation

Provides emergency funding to restaurant and beverage employees or owners, and restaurant/bar supplier employees who are facing unforeseen experiences. The funds are used to help pay for essentials like groceries, clothing, medications, and may covered the cost of rent, natural disaster damages, lost wages, and more. There is no deadline for requests and no cap on the amount given. Types of crises the funds may help with include accidents, change of circumstance, housing crisis, medical/dental issue, natural disaster, or victims of crime/violence. Grants are awarded based on unforeseen financial crises, and applications must be submitted through the website to be considered. Southern Smoke will evaluate each case based on the state of an applicant's emergency.

- Cash-grant program for families with low incomes experiencing household emergencies that are short-term, non-recurring shelter and utility needs, to assist in retaining secure and affordable housing - Families can receive assistance once every 12 months - Applicant's name must be on the lease or utility bill - Applicant(s) must be able to show that their rent and utility costs are affordable - Emergency assistance is paid directly to the vendor - Payments, if approved, in combination with other available resources, must be able to resolve the crisis, not just delay it - Does not provide financial assistance for damage deposits in excess of two month's rent, utility deposits or reconnection charges, legal fees and court costs, garage rental, or moving expenses

Assists with goods or services that contribute to the well-being and/or safety of the individual including: - Air conditioner (window mount) ?- Bed and/or dresser set ?- Carpet/floor covering ?- Couch/sofa ?- Freezer: Upright or chest ?- Furnace ?- Handicap accessibility needs ?- Kitchen range/stove ?- Kitchen table/chair set ?- Main/storm door ?- Microwave ?- Ramp ?- Recliner ?- Refrigerator ?- Septic pumping ?- Washer and/or dryer ?- Water and sewer repairs ?- Water heater Assistance is provided up to $600 per household (with a minimum of $50) towards the purchase of 1 item listed above. If the cost of the item exceeds $600, it is the applicant's responsibility to pay the remainder of the balance and they must demonstrate the ability to pay the remaining balance. Requests are generally limited to 1 request per household every 2 years, unless the request is for an emergency beyond the household's control.

Assists with utility payments, when there is a threat of disconnection. Utilities include electricity, heat, and water. - Emergency General Assistance helps adults without children. Those who qualify for Emergency General Assistance can receive up to two months' payment for their share of rent/mortgage or utilities, or a combined payment of up to $1500.
