Family Spirit
Home-visiting intervention program to support young Native parents from pregnancy to 3 years postpartum. Parents gain knowledge and skills to achieve development for their preschool-age children across the domains of physical, cognitive, social-emotional, language-learning, and self-help. The Family Spirit Program consists of 63 lessons. Goals of the program:

Maternal and Child Health
Prenatal Visits: Public Health Nurse will discuss normal body changes during pregnancy, nutritional needs during pregnancy, healthy choices during pregnancy, and referrals for other available services.
Postpartum Visits: After delivery, a Public Health Nurse is available to discuss topics including normal body changes after pregnancy, breastfeeding support, family planning and birth control methods that are best for parent, information on infant development, weight, and measurement, parenting techniques, car seat safety, sleep safety, and referrals for other available services.
Well-Child Services: Public Health Nurse is available to visit during regularly scheduled appointments. Topics covered during these visits including baby's height, weight, and development, feeding baby (breastfeeding, bottle feeding, starting solids), sleep habits, how to play with baby and activities that stimulate development, and referrals for other available services.
Family Planning: Individual or group education sessions about family planning methods, good physical health before and during pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases.
Breastfeeding Counseling: Public Health Nurses trained in lactation counseling offering education and support during the prenatal and postpartum period to help mothers get a good start on nursing. One-on-One Childbirth education and Family Spirit education.
Parenting Education: Public Health staff will meet with parents to provide age-specific parenting education, explain developmental stages that children go through, and discuss alternative ways to discipline children.

This service provides referral and education. Pregnancy testing and treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea is provided at no cost.
- Follow Along Program: Monitors children ages birth to three. Questionnaires are sent to parents every four months to evaluate their child's development.
- Family Home Visiting: For families with children birth to five years old. Home visiting supports families as they learn about healthy pregnancies, positive parenting, infant and child growth and development, health and nutrition, breastfeeding support, childhood safety and injury prevention, strengthening family relationships, and community resources.

Family Home Visiting: Dedicated to the well-being of pregnant women and families with young children, home visiting services help families raise healthy children who are ready to succeed in school and in life. Nurses offer information and support on a variety of topics and help individuals develop new parenting skills. There are a variety of home visiting programs available depending on the age of the child or parents. Individuals are encouraged to call to be assessed for the program that best fits their needs. Education and support topics may include:
- Creating a safe home for the child
- Finding healthcare, childcare, school/job options, and other resources in the community
- Goal setting
- Knowledge of growth and development
- Preparation for birth
- Promotion of the baby's health and well-being
- Self-care during pregnancy
Child and Teen Checkups Program: Checkups help children grow to their full potential. The C&TC program works with families and health professionals to make sure youth are getting their checkups. This program helps families:
- Arrange transportation or an interpreter
- Find a dental clinic
- Find a medical clinic
- Navigate health insurance and access benefits like gift cards and car seats
- Schedule appointments
- Understand what happens at a checkup like: lab tests, immunizations, lead screening, vision and hearing tests, dental referrals, development/behavior assessments, education on development stages, and more

Asthma Home Based Services:
- Includes up to three home visits
- Learn about asthma triggers in the home and reduce triggers
- Learn about community resources
Prenatal Programs for Expectant Parents:
- Child passenger safety seat program to conduct car seat checks
- Expectant parenting classes offered four times a year by public health nurses and parent educators
- Follow Along Program to track child's development to see if their child is playing, talking, growing, moving, and behaving like other children their age
- Prenatal visits and family home visiting to have a home nurse visit them to offer education and support and post-partum until their baby reaches two years of age

Car Seat Program: Medica and UCare have a car seat program for children up to 8 years of age. Education and installation of the car seat are offered to any resident of Becker County.
Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC): Child and Teen Checkups are offered to any Waseca County resident under the age of 21. Checkups include: hearing and vision screening, developmental screening, physical exam, lead screening, immunizations, and referrals to other health care providers as necessary.
Follow Along Program: Consists of a series of developmental questionnaires the parent completes and returns to Waseca County Community Health. The questionnaire is scored and a letter is sent to the parent with the results. This program is free to all children in Waseca County under the age of 36 months.
Home Visiting Program: Home visits are offered to pregnant women, infants, and children to provide ongoing support.
Maternal Child Health Services: All Waseca County families with a newborn are contacted by a Community Health Nurse. A home visit will be offered to provide new parents with information on feeding choices, newborn cares and additional support.
