The Community Action Center operates the only homeless shelter in northern Rice County. - Places one individual or family at a time in an apartment where they may stay for up to 90 days - Provides food, support with housing search, and coordinating community resources - Because of increasing demand, priority is given to the most vulnerable clients The shelter is an access point for Coordinated Entry housing programs; after regular business hours, the CAC cooperates with local police and area churches in serving people in the Northfield area who need temporary shelter at a local motel.
Primary services include coordinated entry access point for individuals who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Case management is offered to prevent future issues with homelessness. Financial assistance may be available but is NOT provided in all situations, requirements vary by programs and funding. Potential assistance consists of: - Funding for housing and utility costs/deposits - Funding for transportation costs via vehicle repair or public transit - Clothing and food assistance as well as other basic needs - Housing stability case management Programs may include: - Limited fund for short term hotel stays in tandem with case management services - Long-term homelessness supportive services in Aitkin, Carlton, Isanti, Mille Lacs, Kanabec, Pine and Chisago County to help with housing search and placement for families and unaccompanied youth - Assistance for homeless ex-offenders in Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, and Pine County, housing placement as well as rent and deposit funds may be available -Transitional housing services for homeless youth ages 16 - 22, as well as some financial assistance for rent NOTE: Funding comes from a variety of sources including the Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program - FHPAP and others.

Single adults and families in Dakota county should call Dakota County's Housing Resource Line. - Permanent Supportive Housing: Provides a CAP-owned rental unit for homeless individuals and families with disabilities in Carver, Dakota, and Scott counties

A private, non-profit organization serving Clearwater County. (Requests from outside of the county will not necessarily be denied) The purpose of Salvation Army is to provide moral and spiritual support, material goods, food, shelter, and transportation for those unable to provide for themselves. Every situation is reviewed individually Conditions of service: - Will maintain anonymity and confidentiality - Will require name, address and Social Security number in order to provide ANY services. - If a person doesn't have a Social Security card, a driver's license may be acceptable. Emergency Shelter Program: Offers limited motel stays as a short-term solution while working with people to come up with a plan for long-term housing stability. Part of the plan may include employment and housing searches, connections to mainstream resources, and short to medium-term rental assistance. Transitional Housing Program: Provides a long-term housing program to help an individual regain self-sufficiency. The goal of this program is to transition struggling individuals and families into stabilized living situations. The resources are offered for people of all backgrounds, including single parents, children, and individuals that were recently evicted. The program requires an assessment, application approval, weekly case management meetings, and constant contact with a case manager. If approved Prairie Five can: - Pay a portion of rent ?- Provide assistance with referrals, phone calls, setting up appointments, application assistance, resume building, job search, family development, etc. ?- Tenant education ?- Budgeting/smart money use Family Homeless Prevention Assistance Program: Helps families or individuals get out of homelessness or prevent homelessness from occurring. If eligible, the FHPAP program can help with first month's rent, security deposit, or back rent/mortgage assistance up to a certain dollar amount. To be eligible for this program individuals must: - Fill out an application ?- Be able to prove a housing crisis (eviction notice, mortgage papers, etc.) ?- Must have income During this program, all applicants who are deemed eligible will also be required to watch the "Rent Wise, Money Smart" videos. The videos go over smart shopping, facts about debt and credit reports, saving, budgeting, and more.

The Hometown Resource Center may provide emergency assistance with food, clothing and shelter. The center offers a one-time rent payment assistance. In extreme crisis situations and only when funding is available, the center may provide motel vouchers (for short-term stays only). The center may provide gas cards for people needing to get to work or important appointments (on a case by case basis). Gas cards are not available for people with Medicare or Medicaid (because they have other options for transportation). Staff may also provide information and referral to other community resources for people.

The Salvation Army in Houston has limited funds for food vouchers, hotel vouchers, and transportation needs including bus tickets for stranded travelers and car repair assistance. This service is only available when the organization has funding. Because of the dependence on the organization's available funds there is no guarantee that all requests for assistance can be granted, however, people are encouraged to call when they have an emergency need.
