Accepts hazardous materials from residents of Waseca County. Does not and cannot accept business waste. Also accepts agricultural materials for disposal from county residents.
Accepts items that are flammable, corrosive, toxic, poisonous, or reactive including: - Adhesives and putties - Aerosol Spray Products: Spray paint, oven cleaner, and pesticides - Appliances: Washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, dehumidifiers, water heaters, and window air conditioners; ammonia appliances - Automotive Chemicals: Gas, oil and antifreeze (must be in a container that is two and a half gallons or smaller in size); brake or power steering fluid - Batteries (lead acid) - Cell phones - Electronics: TVs; stereos, and computer components - Fuels and Solvents: Fingernail polish remover, charcoal lighter fluid, and kerosene - Household Chemicals: Oven cleaner; household or toilet bowl or drain cleaners; furniture polish; moth balls; unused or outdated medicines - Mercury: Fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), thermometers, and thermostats - Paint Products: Paint, stain, varnish, polyurethane, and paint stripper - Sharps (needles) - Tires: From cars and light trucks (SUVs and pickup trucks) - Wood preservatives - Yard Chemicals: Non-ag pesticides, poisons, weed killers, and pool chemicals RE-USE Room: Residents and businesses can look through thousands of household products to take. Commonly found items include interior and exterior house paint; stain and varnish; spray paint; automotive products (antifreeze and other fluids, oils and lubricants, waxes and cleaners); lawn and garden products; household items (cleaning chemicals, tile products, caulk, adhesives, and putty).

The Winona County Planning and Environmental Services Department provides the household hazardous waste facility for community residents to dispose of household hazardous waste at no charge. Types of waste products accepted at the facility include - Paint - Stain - Varnish - Cleaners - Solvents - Antifreeze - Motor oil - Filters - Aerosol cans - Pesticides - Fluorescent bulbs - Rechargeable batteries - Propane cylinders - Residential sharps - Acids/bases - Some medications The facility operates a used product exchange for paint and other usable products.

Bring in small household appliances, clothing, electronics, mobile devices and more and receive free guided assistance to disassemble, troubleshoot and fix items. Centers are located at each drop-off facility. - Medicine Disposal: Provides green medicine drop boxes located at law enforcement facilities throughout Hennepin County for residents to dispose of medicines. Household Hazardous Waste: County residents may bring certain household hazardous waste such as used oil, products containing mercury, etc. to collection sites for proper disposal. A list of accepted items can be found online. The year round site is at Bay West, Inc. 5 Empire Drive, St. Paul 55103. Needles, syringes, lancets and other medical sharps can be disposed of at the year round collection site. Transport them in an empty detergent bottle or other closed container with a screw on lid and label the container "needles". Residents will be asked to place the container in the collection bin themselves. If there are syringes or epipens with liquid remaining they should be disposed of at the Medicine Collection Program drop off locations. Reuse Center: Located at main collection site, allows for the reuse of still-usable household chemicals such as paints, automotive fluids, and pesticides. Must be 18 or older to take products. Product availability and selection will vary. Yard Waste: County residents may bring leaves, brush, and grass clippings to specific sites and pick up free compost. Items accepted vary by site.

These products are available to residents of the Tri-County area free of charge. Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit: The mobile unit stops in many communities throughout the summer for free drop off. Call for more information. Car Seat Recycling Program: Residents can drop off their used car seats and they will be disassembled and parts recycled Also provides the Stearns County Waste Wizard Mobile App. It is a tool that will help determine whether a specific item should be recycled, composted, or dropped off at the Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Facility. The mobile app that provides specific instructions on how to dispose of household items.

Household hazardous waste program for the region serving multiple counties. The facility helps residents properly dispose of items that contain toxic and potentially hazardous ingredients such as cleanser, paints, oils, pesticides, etc. - Clean Shop: licensed to accept hazardous waste generated from businesses and farming operations. For those businesses that are already registered with a Minnesota waste ID, the center can accept waste from Minimal Generators (MG) and Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQG). - Product Exchange: keeps a product reuse shelf where residents can reuse items that are recieved but in good working order. New items arrive daily and are available for free.

The Resource Recovery Center uses a single stream recycling program. All recyclable newspaper, magazine, junk mail, all office and computer paper, cardboard, telephone books, hard and soft covered books, cake/cereal/chip/cracker boxes, brochures, paper bags, glass bottles and jars, tin cans, aluminum cans, foil and plates, plastic bottles and jugs, and ice cream pails can be put in the same container for pick up. City residential and business recycling collection schedules vary; contact local hauler or city hall for schedule. RURAL RECYCLING PROGRAM: All recyclable newspaper, magazine, junk mail, all office and computer paper, cardboard, telephone books, hard and soft covered books, cake/cereal/chip/cracker boxes, brochures, paper bags, glass bottles and jars, tin cans, aluminum cans, foil and plates, plastic bottles and jugs, and ice cream pails can be put in the same container. The recycling center also accepts the following problem materials for recycling: used oil and oil filters, tires, antifreeze, fluorescent and high intensity discharge light bulbs, CFLs, ballasts, appliances, lead-acid batteries, button batteries, rechargeable batteries, and scrap metal. The following items are accepted: clean and dry clothing, bedding, curtains, scatter rugs, belts, shoes, purses; stained materials accepted, must be clean and dry. Items Accepted for Recycling - Household Hazardous Waste: Household cleaners; gasoline and other automotive products; pesticides; latex and oil-based paints, pesticides/fertilizers/weed killer; propane tanks; aerosol cans; paint remover/stripper/thinner; stain/varnish; insect/roach/ant killer; mercury thermometers and thermostats; rechargeable batteries - Household Sharps and Needles: Must be in approved container - Recyclables: Newspapers and inserts; corrugated cardboard; magazines and catalogs; mail, phone books and office paper; steel and aluminum cans, foil and trays; tin; glass bottles and jars; boxboard (cracker, cereal, pop/beer, etc.); food and beverage plastics #1 - 7; milk carton and juice boxes - Batteries: Automotive and household - Cartridges: Inkjet and printer - Used motor oil, filters and antifreeze - Scrap Metal: All non metal material must be removed - Clothing/useable products - Cooking Oil: Vegetable, peanut, canola, olive, soybean, corn and sunflower - Bicycles - Lawnmowers/Other Small Engine Devices: Must be drained of all fluids - Fluorescent Bulbs: Residents - maximum of 25 bulbs - Organics: All food products including meat and bones; coffee grounds and tea bags; non-recyclable paper such as pizza boxes, paper towels, paper plates, paper napkins and waxed paper containers - Residential Electronics: TVs/monitors; CPUs and laptops; printers and scanners; keyboards and mice; VCR and DVD players; CD players; stereos and speakers; miscellaneous items (phones, etc.) - Business electronics - Appliances: Refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, microwaves, water softeners, dehumidifiers, water heaters, treadmills and air conditioners - Business appliances - Tires: Car, truck, SUV, semi, farm (small) front and farm (large) rear - Shoes - Mattresses and box springs - Christmas trees
